Our Story

Hi, we're Karen & Sam. Like many of you, our dream is for our kids to write beautiful stories on their own, ace their spelling, and actually enjoy the learning process.

The Reality at Home

But the reality of homework was completely different. Sitting down to write a composition—whether it was English or Chinese—felt like a weekly battle. Between our own limited bandwidth to constantly supervise, and their struggle with vocabulary (or Chinese “stroke amnesia”, forgetting characters the moment they pick up a pencil), getting a story out was like squeezing a dry tube of toothpaste.

Even spelling tests and 听写 required us to sit there and dictate words one by one when we were already juggling a million other chores. It was exhausting for all of us.

The Traditional Tuition Trap

We looked into traditional tuition, but quickly realized its biggest flaw: the feedback loop is completely broken. Kids write a whole essay in silence, hand it in, and days later get back a page bleeding in red ink. Because tutors can't sit with every child to guide them paragraph-by-paragraph, they default to the “copy-paste” method—forcing kids to rote-memorize model essays and rigid templates. Sure, memorizing essays might scrape them a decent grade, but it kills their creativity and stunts real writing development.

The Pivot

We knew AI tools could help, so we tried them. They kinda worked — but we quickly realized a massive problem: raw AI is too open-ended for a primary schooler. Kids at this age don't need a bot that just writes the essay for them. They need structured guardrails, step-by-step learning, and a safe space that actually teaches them how to build a story and practise independently.

What We Built

So we built StorySqueeze (挤挤写作) for our own kids — then opened it up to other families.

Set up your child's profile and choose their second language. StorySqueeze adapts instantly to support both English and their Mother Tongue (Chinese, Malay, Tamil) across two core features:

✏️ Composition Writing

Kids use voice dictation to speak their raw ideas scene by scene. Our AI acts as a structured coach — grading each paragraph, offering specific vocabulary and technique suggestions, and showing what “one level up” looks like. No ghostwriting. No model essays to copy. Just honest, iterative feedback on their own ideas.

📝 Spelling & Dictation (听写)

Snap a photo of the weekly school spelling list — English words or Chinese characters. Our scanner reads it instantly and runs a voice-dictated self-test. Kids practise independently, at their own pace. Parents get their evenings back.

Common Questions

"Will this just write the essay for my child and make them lazy?"

No. StorySqueeze is designed as a coach, not a ghostwriter. The AI will not generate a full essay for them to copy. It listens to your child's ideas and asks guiding questions to help them expand their vocabulary and structure their own story.

"Is the AI safe and age-appropriate?"

Yes. StorySqueeze runs on a tightly constrained backend — the AI is restricted to educational goals only. There is no open internet access, no general chat, and no way for a child to go off-script. It is a closed, safe sandbox built for primary school learning.

"If they speak their essays, how will they learn to write physically for exams?"

Voice dictation is only used for the initial ideation phase — to overcome the dread of the blank page. The final essay is written by the student. Combined with our dictation spelling practice, they are actively building handwriting retention every week.
